Morayo Orija is excited to join the Strawdog family! She's had the pleasure of getting to know some of the Ensemble, as she was cast in last season's PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY. Unfortunately, due to some light medical issues, she had to relinquish her role and is looking forward to a restart in this entirely different capacity with the organization.
She has worked as a non-profit administrator since 2006 in the roles of Program Director at the Arts and Science Council in Charlotte, NC, and Community Outreach and Development Director for Stella Adler Academy and Theatre - Los Angeles. Since arriving in Chicago last year, she's served as the part-time Development Coordinator for Congo Square Theatre on the city's South Side. She's also worked on the political field with various candidates and conducted arts advocacy work with Arts Alliance Illinois earlier this year.
In addition to acting and directing, she enjoys bringing the arts to students in classrooms. She's worked as a touring actor and residency instructor with Stageworks Theatre and the NC Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. During the 2018-2019 school year, she'll join the Play-in-a-Book company and instruct 4th-graders once a week.
When not acting or raising theatre funds, she likes to support her alma mater UNC - Chapel Hill by watching a basketball, volleyball or football game. She confesses that she can be a rather obnoxious UNC sports fan, but is pretty kind and laid back the rest of the time, as long as you aren't blocking the screen or rooting for Duke.
