The author of Gardening by Heart (Sierra Club Books) and a former satirist for Salon.com, Joyce is a graduate of the National University of Ireland (Galway) with degrees in Philosophy and English. In Ireland, she worked with the Druid and Abbey Theatres and was an award-winning newspaper columnist. She later served as publicist for the Western Stage Theatre in California, while also managing a wide range of publishing projects in education and human-interest features. She is currently a supervising editor for the academic division of National Geographic and lives in Evanston. She has one son, Eoghan a graduate of Harvard and the London School of Economics, who is a doctoral student in Political Science at UCLA.
